What Is Microbial Aeration?

Microbial aeration is the process of adding readily available carbon to the soil, similar to composting, but the product used provides a more uniform application – without the mess.

Carbon is the primary food source of soil microbes. By adding readily available carbon to the soil microbial activity and populations increase. Soil decompression comes with the increased activity and growing population of the microbes, recreating nature’s way of keeping the soil fertile.

We use a natural, plant derived product that promotes root development, nutrient uptake, and overall plant heath, taking you one step closer to the lawn of your dreams.

Benefits of Microbial Aeration

Microbial Aeration is the next-level method for managing soil compaction. Unlike traditional aeration methods where spots are missed due to machine limitations, the sprinkler system must be marked, and messy soil plugs are left all over the lawn; Microbial Aeration is clean, convenient, and gets superior results.

With traditional aeration methods, the results of loosened soil and increased water retention tend to drop off after just a few weeks. This is because mechanical aeration only activates the soil microbes that are exposed to air. Once the plugs degrade and the holes fill in, the microbial activity drops off quickly.

With Microbial Aeration soil microbes are activated by applying C20 Soil Builder. This product adds much-needed carbon to the soil and feeds soil microbes. These microbes immediately go to work loosening the soil, increasing water retention and available nutrients. This gives grass plants greater nutrient and water availability while increasing root density.

Microbial Aeration

This product is balanced with 50% of carbon available immediately after being watered in, and 50% becoming available over months. Microbial activity increases quickly and remains elevated for 3 months or more. It’s like having the lawn aerated all day, every day, for 3 months.

Unlike composting materials, which can be contaminated with everything from plastics to pesticides, and have very inconsistent carbon content, C20 Soil Builder is made from all-natural grain by-products and does not contain weed seeds, invasive insects, or any other living organisms that may pose a threat to lawns. The product also contains consistent levels of carbon content because the manufacturing process is consistent.

Because this is a granular application that doesn’t require heavy equipment, the entire lawn can be covered. No more missed areas due to slopes, sprinkler heads, or tight areas.

There is no disturbance to the soil surface, so marking sprinkler systems or other underground structures is a thing of the past. Lack of soil disturbance also allows this application to be performed anytime during the season without disturbing pre-emergent barriers or encouraging weed germination from exposed soil. We generally recommend 2 applications per year, one in the spring and one in the late summer or early fall, for maximum benefit.
